Trinity Episcopal's Karsin Beatty scores on a corner against St. Catherine’s on Sept. 19, 2024.
The Trinity Episcopal field hockey team took down both Norfolk Academy and Collegiate last week, the top-ranked VISAA teams at the time.
Last Tuesday, the Titans, who are now the VISAA’s No. 1 Division I team, defeated Collegiate in what is often a matchup of the Richmond area’s top teams. The Cougars won all three matchups between the two in 2023 but in 2024, Trinity was victorious in round one, winning 5-2.

Against Norfolk Academy, the defending state champions in the VISAA, Trinity won 3-1. It’s the first time the Titans (8-0) have beaten Bulldogs since 2022.
Beatty, Logan and Ainsleigh Jones each had a goal in that win. Eckenrode and Logan had assists.
Titans coach Margie Snead said both games were team efforts.
“While last week’s games were super exciting for Trinity, our main goal is to continue to get better every day,” Snead said. “Both opponents were very strong and I’m so proud of the girls for coming together, working as a team, and earning two hard-fought wins.”
Goalkeepers Alexa Murphy and Avery Johnson combined for seven saves in both games, totaling 14.
Ahead of last week, Norfolk Academy was the top program in VISAA Division I field hockey, with Collegiate at No. 2. In the new poll, which came out Sunday, Trinity is now the top team. The Bulldogs are No. 2 and the Cougars No. 3.
“With that said, we know that there is still a lot of hockey left to be played, and our work is far from over,” Snead said. “These games act as a great benchmark for us at this point in the season.”
Trinity played Saint John Paul the Great on Tuesday at home. The next game between Trinity and Collegiate is next Tuesday at Collegiate. The Titans are 8-0 so far this season.
“(These games) allow us to evaluate what our strengths are and what areas we need to continue to improve upon,” Snead said. “Our main focus is to grow as a group every time we step on the field.
“We know that we are better together, and we will continue to play with and for each other. I don’t think we have seen their best hockey, and I am excited to see their continued progress and where it will take them.”
